Thai health ministry begins inspecting food imported from Japan |
BANGKOK, March 17 -- Thai Public Health Minister Jurin Laksanawisit on Thursday along with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) authorities started checking food and products imported from Japan to examine possible radioactive contamination.
Food and products imported by some 80 companies were randomly inspected but at this initial stage no product was found stained with radiation.
However, some samples will be then brought to the Office of Atoms for Peace for further inspection.
Jurin said the ministry had set up service points to give advice for both arrival and departure passengers coming back from and leaving for Japan.
All passengers of nine different flights who arrived from Japan and underwent random check were not yet found with radioactive contamination.
The Ministry of Public Health has also issued 15,000 iodine pills -- 10,000 of which will be distributed to adults and 5,000 to children arriving at and departing from Suvarnabhumi and Phuket international airports.
Considerando que segun las cifras, Japon es el mayor exportador de productos varios hacia Tailandia, una medida que parece razonable.
